Vigilance raid exposes multi-crore assets of Odisha irrigation engineer
Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: Vigilance raids on properties linked to Prasanna Kumar Swain, Assistant Engineer (Civil) with the Bhanjanagar irrigation division in Ganjam district, have uncovered assets valued at approximately ₹2.4 crore.
The operation, conducted by the Vigilance Technical Wing, revealed a range of assets, including a four-storey palatial building in Berhampur worth ₹2.4 crore, five additional multi-storey buildings in Bhanjanagar and Berhampur, and five high-value plots in the same areas. The searches also uncovered bank deposits and other investments totaling around ₹11.5 lakh, along with two two-wheelers.
These assets are registered under Swain’s name and that of his family members, with valuation and assessment of the properties still underway. The ongoing investigation into allegations of disproportionate assets continues, with further updates expected as the vigilance team persists with its searches.
Swain began his career as a contractual Junior Engineer on October 15, 2003, working in the Lower Indra Canal division in Khariar for seven years. In 2010, he was transferred to his home district of Ganjam, joining the Irrigation Division in Bhanjanagar, which marked the start of his 14-year tenure there. He was promoted to Assistant Engineer in 2013.
