Odisha CM launches ‘Zero Accident Day’ in Keonjhar to promote road safety

Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday, September 13, 2025, launched the “Zero Accident Day” campaign in Keonjhar, with the goal of building awareness and promoting road safety across the district. The initiative, spearheaded by the Commerce and Transport Department, aims to gradually transform Odisha into an accident-free state.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underlined that road safety is a collective responsibility of both government and citizens. He flagged off awareness drives in all 13 blocks of Keonjhar, inaugurated a special “Zero Accident Selfie Point”, and felicitated individuals who have worked tirelessly as road safety advocates.

Highlighting Keonjhar’s mining zones, which are prone to frequent mishaps, Majhi urged citizens to strictly follow traffic rules and remain vigilant. He reiterated the state’s resolve to reduce accidents through awareness campaigns, enforcement of safety norms, and public participation.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar, Keonjhar MP Ananta Nayak, MLAs of the district, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, and District Collector Vishal Singh.

Keonjhar is now the first district in Odisha to roll out this initiative after Bhubaneswar’s success. Backed by IIT Madras, a 14-day intensive program has been designed to train stakeholders, expected to create long-term impact in reducing accidents and fostering a culture of safety.
