Gautam Adani redefines wedding celebrations with Rs 10,000 crore donation to social causes

New Delhi, Feb 7: During his visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela last month, Gautam Adani had mentioned that his son Jeet Adani’s wedding would be celebrated in a “simple and traditional way.” True to his word and dispelling all rumors about an extravagant affair, the billionaire industrialist not only kept the wedding understated but also made a remarkable gesture by donating INR 10,000 crore.

This generous donation will be allocated to various social causes, making it one of the most unique wedding gifts from one of the world's wealthiest individuals.

According to sources close to Adani, the allocation of his substantial donation aligns with his social philosophy of सेवासाधनाहै, सेवाप्रार्थनाहैऔरसेवाहीपरमात्माहै (Service is the path, prayer is the goal, and service is the ultimate purpose). A significant portion of the donation will go towards funding large-scale infrastructure projects in healthcare, education, and skill development. These projects will aim to provide all segments of society with access to affordable world-class hospitals, medical colleges, top-tier K-12 schools, and advanced global skill academies, ensuring employability.

On the day of his younger son’s wedding, Gautam Adani shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter):

"With the blessings of the Supreme Father, Jeet and Diva have today entered into the sacred bond of marriage. The wedding took place today in Ahmedabad among close family and friends, following traditional customs and auspicious rituals. It was an intimate and highly private ceremony, so we were unable to invite all well-wishers, for which I apologize. I humbly ask for your blessings for Beta Diva and Jeet."

In an interesting touch, he referred to his daughter-in-law as “daughter Diva” in the tweet. The wedding took place at the Belvedere Club in Adani Shantigram township in Ahmedabad, where Jeet Adani married Diva, the daughter of diamond trader Jaimin Shah. Family sources revealed that the ceremony was simple, featuring traditional religious rites and a Gujarati wedding, attended only by close relatives and friends. Notably absent were politicians, business leaders, diplomats, celebrities, and other prominent figures.

Jeet Adani, who currently serves as Director at Adani Airports, is responsible for managing six international airports and overseeing the construction of a seventh in Navi Mumbai. He is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Just two days before the wedding, Gautam Adani launched the ‘Mangal Seva’ initiative, which aims to support newly married women with disabilities. The program will provide financial assistance of INR 10 lakh each to 500 such women annually. Jeet Adani personally met with 21 newly married women with disabilities and their husbands to kickstart this initiative. Gautam Adani also took to X to express his joy that Jeet and Diva are beginning their journey together with a virtuous resolution: [link to tweet].

Earlier, during his visit to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on 21 January, when asked by reporters if his son’s wedding would turn into a “Maha Kumbh of celebrities,” Gautam Adani firmly stated, “Definitely not. We are like common people. Jeet came here to take Ma Ganga's blessings. His marriage will happen in a simple and traditional way.”

With his extraordinary act of “Seva Over Self” on the occasion of his son’s wedding, Gautam Adani has set an inspiring example. By choosing to prioritize social causes, he has redefined the way personal milestones are celebrated, offering a thoughtful and community-focused approach that leaves a lasting impact beyond public displays of wealth.
