Six arrested for gang-rape and blackmailing Odisha college student with obscene videos

Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: Badambadi police have arrested six individuals, including a minor, in connection with the gang-rape and blackmail of a 19-year-old college student, who was allegedly coerced into intimate acts using obscene videos. The arrested individuals are from different locations: three are from Jhanjirmangala, one from Barang, and two others from Nayagarh.

According to reports, the victim was invited by her male friend, Ashutosh, to celebrate her birthday at a café in Purighat during the Durga Puja holiday. Afterward, he reportedly engaged in a physical relationship with her, which was secretly recorded by his friends. The accused then used the video to blackmail the girl, forcing her into sexual acts with them. The victim was eventually gang-raped at a house in Barang, where the crime was again recorded, and the blackmail continued.

The situation came to light when a relative of the victim spotted her with the accused near Balikuda Square. Upon being questioned, she revealed the details of the traumatic experience.

The police have recovered the videos from the phones of the accused, and the devices have been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for further analysis. Investigators also discovered incriminating chat messages that indicated how the victim had been coerced.
