Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passes away at 92
New Delhi, Dec 26: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a towering figure in Indian politics and economics, has passed away at the age of 92. He had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after his health deteriorated and was brought to the hospital's emergency department around 8 pm.
Dr. Singh, renowned for his intellect and vision, served as India’s Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996 under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. During this period, he introduced sweeping economic reforms that transformed India into a global economic power.
He later served as India’s Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014, leading the country through significant policy reforms under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Until earlier this year, Dr. Singh was a member of the Rajya Sabha, retiring in April 2023 after decades of dedicated public service.
His passing marks the end of an era in Indian politics. Tributes have begun pouring in from across the nation, with leaders from all political spectrums and citizens mourning the loss of a statesman who dedicated his life to the nation’s progress.
