Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar assaulted during campaign in Delhi

New Delhi, May 18: In a shocking incident during his election campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Kanhaiya Kumar, the Congress candidate from North East Delhi, was assaulted by a youth on Friday. The incident, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media platforms.

The video depicts a youth wearing a black t-shirt and holding a garland approaching Kanhaiya Kumar under the guise of offering him the garland. Suddenly, he slaps the Congress leader, as heard in the accompanying audio where someone can be heard saying, "Kanhaiya pitne wala hai" (Kanhaiya is going to be beaten).

Kanhaiya Kumar's team has issued a statement alleging that the attack was orchestrated by sitting Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari, suggesting that the BJP is apprehensive of Kanhaiya's rising popularity.

Following the assault, a formal complaint was lodged, prompting the police to launch an investigation into the matter. According to the complaint, the incident occurred at the AAP Office in 4th Pushta, Swami Subramanium Bhawan, New Usmanpur, where Kanhaiya Kumar was attending a meeting hosted by AAP Councillor Chhaya Sharma. After the meeting, as Kanhaiya Kumar was being seen off, individuals approached to garland him but instead threw ink and attempted to assault him.

Chhaya Sharma, witnessing the attack, intervened, only to face misbehavior and threats from the crowd. Legal action is now underway based on Sharma's complaint, as authorities delve into the details of the distressing incident.
