Two children injured in battery explosion in Odisha’s Balangir

Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: Two children sustained severe injuries after an unused battery exploded in Odisha’s Balangir district on Sunday.

The incident occurred in Padil village under the jurisdiction of Patnagarh police station. According to sources, the injured children, identified as Ranjit Dalei and Jawahar Sanad, were playing with the battery on a village road in the afternoon when it suddenly exploded.

Hearing their cries of pain, family members and locals rushed to the spot and immediately took them to the sub-divisional hospital in Patnagarh. As their condition required further medical attention, doctors referred them to the district headquarters hospital in Balangir for advanced treatment.

Upon receiving information, a team from Patnagarh police station arrived at the village and initiated an investigation. However, the exact cause of the explosion, especially how a sealed and unused battery detonated, remains unclear. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
