Investigation launched after patient's body discovered hanging in AIIMS Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: A tragic incident unfolded at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar, where the body of a 70-year-old patient was discovered hanging in the Orthopaedic ward under puzzling circumstances.
The deceased, identified as Dilip Kumar Sahu, hails from Atalapur village in Jajpur district and had been recently admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The unsettling discovery was made by hospital staff, who found Sahu hanging from a fan above his bed. Preliminary assessments suggest that the incident likely occurred around midnight, but the reasons behind this drastic action remain unclear. Sahu was admitted to AIIMS on December 5, and his family has expressed confusion regarding the events leading up to his death.
In response to the incident, local police have seized the body and initiated a thorough investigation, interviewing the deceased’s daughter, fellow patients, and hospital personnel. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
AIIMS has assembled a six-member team to conduct an internal inquiry, emphasizing that there has been no negligence on the part of the hospital staff.
