Thunderstorms likely to persist across Odisha for next five days

Bhubaneswar, April 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued thunderstorm activity across several districts of Odisha for the next five days. In its latest midday bulletin issued on Saturday, the IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds expected to impact various regions, especially during afternoon and evening hours.

According to the bulletin, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next three days. However, the mercury is likely to dip by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across the state thereafter, bringing slight relief from the prevailing heat.

A yellow warning has been issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely within the next 24 hours. Similarly, wind speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected to affect Balasore, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Puri, and Khurda.

For April 13–14, yellow warnings remain in place for several northern and coastal districts. On April 14–15, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh are expected to face stronger gusts up to 50 kmph. The IMD has advised residents to take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the stormy spell.
