CM Majhi honors Odisha's medalists from WorldSkills Lyon 2024

Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi honored the participants of the World Skills Competition (WorldSkills Lyon 2024) during a ceremony at Lok Seva Bhavan today.
Amaresh Sahu, who earned a bronze medal in the competition, received a cash prize of ₹25 lakh, while Gedela Akhil, who was awarded the Medallion for Excellence, was presented with ₹5 lakh. The Chief Minister remarked that the skills of Odisha’s youth have garnered international recognition, emphasizing that skill development will become a movement in the state.
“We are committed to building a developed Odisha by 2036 and 2047. Our talented youth will be the true drivers of this progress. They are the essence of our identity and the foundation of our aspirations,” he stated. He added that the potential of the youth is a source of strength and pride, urging that the skill development program be transformed into a widespread initiative.
A total of 60 participants from India took part in the World Skills Competition held in France from September 10 to 15, with 15 contestants hailing from Odisha. Amaresh Sahu from Deogarh district excelled in Renewable Energy, while Gedela Akhil from Gajapati earned recognition in Water Technology. The Chief Minister highlighted that having 15 participants from Odisha among the 60 nationwide contestants is a significant achievement, showcasing the capabilities of the state’s youth. “This sets a new benchmark for our efficiency,” Majhi remarked.
Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister of Industries, Skill Development and Vocational Education, noted that 25% of the national contestants were from Odisha, underscoring the state’s talent on international platforms. He mentioned that under the Chief Minister’s guidance, initiatives are underway to enhance skill development at the grassroots level.
