BMC Additional Commissioner allegedly assaulted by Corporator and associates during grievance hearing

Bhubaneswar, June 30: A shocking incident unfolded at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters on Monday during a public grievance hearing when Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo was allegedly assaulted and manhandled by Corporator Jiban Babu and his associates.

According to Sahoo, the incident occurred around 11:30 AM while he was conducting a routine grievance redressal session. Corporator Jiban Babu, accompanied by five to six men, entered the chamber and confronted him over alleged comments made against their associate, identified as ‘Jaga Bhai.’ When Sahoo denied making any such remarks, the corporator accused him of misconduct.

The confrontation quickly turned aggressive. Sahoo claimed that the group began shouting, punched him, and physically manhandled him. They allegedly dragged him out of his office chamber and attempted to force him into a vehicle parked outside the BMC premises.

Visibly shaken, Sahoo expressed shock over the incident, stating that he had not anticipated such behavior from an elected representative. He has vowed to take legal and administrative steps against the culprits.

The police have been informed, and a formal investigation into the matter is currently underway.
