16 CCTV cameras set up at Bharatpur police station amid controversy

Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: In a notable move, 16 CCTV cameras have been installed at Bharatpur police station, which faced significant backlash for lacking surveillance equipment. The cameras are strategically placed both inside and outside the station to enhance transparency and accountability. Additionally, plans are underway to install nine more cameras, according to sources.

This development follows a controversy involving alleged misconduct by an Indian Army official and his fiancée at the police station.

The Orissa High Court recently expressed dissatisfaction upon learning that 57 out of 650 police stations in the state did not have CCTV cameras. To promote transparency, the court instructed the Additional Director General (ADG) to provide a status report on CCTV installations across police stations statewide.

The court's intervention prompted the rapid installation of cameras at Bharatpur Police Station, highlighting the need for improved oversight in law enforcement facilities.
