Odisha govt seeks more time from HC on pre-2017 apartment registration

Bhubaneswar, March 19: he Odisha government on Wednesday requested additional time from the Orissa High Court to submit its response regarding the registration of apartments constructed before 2017. During the hearing, the government sought an extension, leading to the continuation of the court’s interim order until the next proceedings.

The case pertains to a government notification allowing the registration of apartments built before February 2017. The notification was introduced to streamline property registrations and provide legal sanctity to pre-2017 apartment constructions, addressing concerns raised by homebuyers and developers. Many such properties faced hurdles in obtaining registration due to regulatory ambiguities.

However, the notification encountered legal opposition, with certain parties challenging its validity, arguing that it might violate legal norms and urban planning regulations. The matter was taken up in the High Court, leading to judicial scrutiny.

With the state government now seeking more time, the final resolution of the issue remains pending. The court is expected to schedule another hearing, where the government will be required to present its detailed response and justification for the policy.
