Odisha Government revises Sabitri Amabasya holiday to May 26

Bhubaneswar, May 23: The Odisha Government on Friday officially revised the date for the upcoming Sabitri Amabasya holiday, announcing that the state-wide public holiday will now be observed on May 26 (Monday) instead of the previously scheduled May 27 (Tuesday).

The change was approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi after detailed consultations with the Puri Mukti Mandap priests, prominent religious institutions, and Hindu almanac committees. The decision was taken to ensure the holiday aligns accurately with the religious calendar and traditional observance.

Sabitri Amabasya is a deeply revered occasion among married Hindu women in Odisha. On this auspicious day, women observe fasting and perform sacred rituals, praying for the long life and well-being of their husbands. The festival is marked by devotion and spiritual significance, especially in rural and semi-urban parts of the state.

Following the revision, May 26 will now be a public holiday across all government offices and institutions. Regular office operations will continue on May 27. The state government issued formal notifications to inform departments and the public, ensuring a smooth adjustment to the updated holiday schedule.
