Four new medical colleges to come up in Odisha, announces CM Mohan Majhi
Bhubaneswar, April 11: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced that the Odisha government will establish new medical colleges in four more districts to strengthen the state's healthcare infrastructure.
Speaking at the launch event of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Cuttack, he said, “Currently, there are 12 medical colleges functioning in Odisha. Two more will be inaugurated soon, and plans are underway to set up additional colleges in Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur districts.”
He added that the state government has already made budgetary provisions for these projects in the 2025-26 fiscal plan.
Highlighting the government’s focus on improving healthcare services, the Chief Minister revealed that around 4,000 doctors and other medical staff have been appointed in the past 10 months. Furthermore, efforts are being made to recruit another 5,000 doctors and dentists in the near future.
Reaffirming his commitment to expanding healthcare access, Majhi reiterated the government’s goal to establish medical colleges in every district of the state. He also announced that four new dental colleges will be set up in separate districts.
Calling the rollout of AB-PMJAY in Odisha a historic milestone, Majhi criticized the previous BJD-led government for not implementing the central scheme, alleging political motives behind the delay.
