Suspicious bag triggers panic at Bhubaneswar Airport amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions

Bhubaneswar, May 9: Amid tightened security across vital installations due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a suspicious unclaimed bag caused a brief panic at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

The unattended bag was discovered in a public area of the terminal, prompting immediate action from airport security personnel. Acting swiftly as per standard security protocols, officials alerted the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which immediately cordoned off the area and evacuated nearby passengers to ensure their safety.

The Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad were promptly called in to inspect the bag using advanced equipment and trained sniffer dogs. Following a thorough investigation, no explosive or hazardous material was found inside the luggage, much to the relief of both authorities and passengers.

Airport officials later urged travelers to remain vigilant and report any unattended baggage or suspicious activities. Passengers were also requested to cooperate with intensified security measures, including bag checks and temporary delays.

Although operations in the affected terminal zone were briefly disrupted, normal activities resumed soon after, and overall airport functioning remained stable. The incident highlights the importance of alertness during periods of national security concern.
