Five engineering students arrested over ragging incident in Keonjhar

Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: Five senior students from the Government College of Engineering in Keonjhar have been arrested and suspended from the college for one year following allegations of ragging a junior student on campus.

The students reportedly assaulted Biswajit Behera, a second-year mining student, who is now receiving treatment for serious injuries at the District Headquarters Hospital. The incident came to light after the student’s parents lodged a complaint with the police.

According to Biswajit’s account, the incident took place around 2:30 am when the seniors forced entry into his hostel room after he refused to open the door. They then allegedly attacked him with rods and sticks, resulting in severe injuries.

In response to the complaint, the college authorities conducted an internal investigation and subsequently suspended the accused students. Keonjhar town police proceeded with their arrest following the investigation.
