Jagannath Temple servitors urge PM Modi for use of desi ghee in Mahaprasad
Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: Shortly after the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) announced its decision to use exclusively OMFED ghee for preparing Mahaprasad and lighting lamps at the temple, members of the Suara Mahasuara Nijog reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They urged him to intervene and ensure that only pure desi cow ghee is used in the preparation of Mahaprasad.
In their letter, the servitors emphasized the importance of maintaining the sanctity of Mahaprasad by permitting the use of authentic desi cow ghee. They also called on the Prime Minister to take action to establish a gaushala at Lord Jagannath’s Amrutarohini plot, which would provide a reliable source of pure ghee for the temple.
The letter highlighted that setting up a gaushala would not only enhance the sanctity of Mahaprasad but also support the welfare of cows, aligning with the Prime Minister’s commitment to cow protection.
This initiative would contribute to both the temple's rituals and broader efforts in cow service and sustainable development. The SJTA's recent decision to exclusively use OMFED ghee followed a meeting on Tuesday, with the SJTA chief administrator formally notifying the OMFED managing director about the change and requesting the establishment of a special depot for the supply.
