Cyclonic circulation expected to impact Odisha weather by October 23

Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Thursday that a new cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. This development is anticipated to lead to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Central Bay of Bengal by October 22, which is likely to move northwestward and gain strength.
According to the IMD's press release, “A fresh upper air cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the Central Bay of Bengal around October 22, after which it is likely to intensify further.”
Despite this, the IMD indicated that significant rainfall is not expected in Northwest, East, Central, and Northeast India. Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, mentioned that some districts in Odisha may experience rain due to the low pressure on October 23 and 24.
Weather expert Sarat Sahu added that the cyclonic circulation is moving quickly and could make landfall in Odisha, West Bengal, or Bangladesh around October 23 or 24, potentially becoming a deep depression or marginal cyclone by that time. Coastal districts such as Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal are likely to receive rainfall as a result.
