CM Majhi vows development for Pipili’s artisans and cultural heritage

Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Pipili and surrounding areas during his address at the Kumar Festival, organized by the Hardurga Youth Club on Tuesday evening. He outlined the government’s plans to support artisans and develop the region’s tourism potential.

Highlighting the rich cultural legacy of Delang and Pipili, the Chief Minister said, “This land is known for its world-famous Chandua art and the heroic Naga dance. The renowned Dayanachori fairs of Harirajpur and Balanga are part of its cultural pride.” Majhi assured that the government is committed to supporting the artisans and craftsmen who have kept these traditions alive.

During his speech, he acknowledged the people’s trust in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking the party's first governance tenure in Odisha. "Pipili was once troubled by violence and chaos, but we are determined to change that. This sacred land, closely tied to Jagannath culture, will witness peace and development under our leadership," he stated.

Majhi expressed admiration for the craftsmanship of Pipili artisans, particularly their intricate Chandua work used in decorating the chariots during Rath Yatra. “Your art is so revered that even Lord Jagannath cherishes it. We will not only expand markets for your crafts but also work tirelessly to honor your artistry,” the Chief Minister said.

Majhi revealed plans to enhance tourism by developing an eco-tourism area near the Pipili Toll Plaza. He also announced that special attention would be given to the famous Vishwanath Temple, alongside the establishment of a Gandhi Memorial. Furthermore, additional funding will be provided for the Chandua project to ensure the preservation and promotion of local art.

In response to challenges faced by local farmers, the Chief Minister promised to expand the Uttarayana cold storage facility into a larger one to meet future needs.

Majhi reflected on the significance of the autumn season, describing it as a time of joy and gratitude in Odisha. “This season is marked by festivals like Durga Puja, Kumar Purnima, and Diwali, where we offer our thanks to nature and divine powers. Maa Gajalakshmi is also worshipped with reverence during this period,” he noted.

The Chief Minister lauded the efforts of the Hardurga Youth Club for organizing the Kumar Festival and preserving the region’s cultural heritage. He assured continued support from the government to nurture the area’s traditions, art, and tourism, promising that funding will not be a constraint for these developmental initiatives.
