No secret tunnels found in Jagannath Temple’s Ratna Bhandar, confirms Law Minister
Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: The speculation about secret tunnels or chambers within the Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath Temple in Puri has been clarified. Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced that investigations have shown there are no hidden tunnels or chambers in the ancient temple complex.
This confirmation follows recent reports of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) conducting laser scanning of the site. For years, rumors have circulated regarding the presence of concealed chambers potentially filled with valuable jewels.
However, the Law Minister has now put these theories to rest, stating that while a final survey report is forthcoming, initial findings indicate no secret structures exist. He noted that the ASI's survey has been instrumental in identifying cracks within the Ratna Bhandar, emphasizing the need for a lasting solution.
Additionally, he mentioned that repair work on both the outer and inner chambers of the Ratna Bhandar will commence shortly. The inventory of the temple’s valuables will begin in the New Year, after the repair work is completed. Given the influx of devotees during the holy month of Kartik, these repairs are expected to take around one and a half months to finish, with the counting of valuables commencing thereafter, all conducted with due regard for the safety and beliefs of the millions who worship Jagannath.
