Odisha to recruit 12,000 police personnel to strengthen law and order: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar, April 9: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Wednesday that the state is initiating the process to recruit approximately 12,000 personnel in the police department. The move is aimed at boosting the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the force.

The announcement followed a meeting between CM Majhi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. The meeting focused on various aspects of internal security and law enforcement, including the pressing need to address manpower shortages in the state police.

According to sources, the discussion took place at the North Block during a review session chaired by the Union Home Minister. Key topics included the state’s law and order situation and strategies to fill existing vacancies in the police force.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Majhi said, “It was a routine coordination meeting between the Union and State Home Departments. We discussed ways to implement the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) in Odisha with the support of the Union Ministry.”

The Chief Minister also touched on other priority areas such as traffic regulation and combating cybercrime, emphasizing the importance of timely recruitment to address these challenges. He noted that these efforts are part of the state government's broader commitment to improving public safety—an area he claims was previously overlooked.

Majhi further pointed out that the influence of Maoist activities in the state has significantly declined, now limited to just 10 districts. He expressed optimism that the issue would be fully resolved by March 2026.
