Odisha govt forms dedicated traffic wing, adds 20 new cyber police stations

Bhubaneswar, April 17: In a major step toward strengthening law enforcement and road safety, the Odisha government has announced the formation of a dedicated Traffic and Road Safety Wing (T&RWS) and the establishment of 20 new cyber police stations across the state. The decision was officially notified on Wednesday.

The newly formed T&RWS will operate directly under the supervision of the Director General of Police (DGP) and have its headquarters in Bhubaneswar. A total of 66 posts have been sanctioned for the headquarters, along with 1,930 additional posts at the district level to boost traffic regulation and road safety initiatives.

To combat the growing menace of cybercrimes and financial frauds, 20 new cyber police stations will be set up, functioning alongside the existing 14 stations in cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, and Rourkela.

For these facilities, the government has approved 987 new posts across various ranks. The 14 existing stations will continue to operate with six specialists each, while the new ones will have four experts, including IT professionals, cyber forensic experts, and finance analysts. The Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) will recruit 170 experts through third-party outsourcing.
