Thunderstorm, rain and gusty winds to continue across Odisha till April 21: IMD

Bhubaneswar, April 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an extended weather alert, forecasting continued thunderstorm activity, rainfall, and gusty winds across Odisha till April 21.

A yellow warning for Kalbaisakhi (nor’westers), commonly occurring during afternoon or evening hours, has been issued for several districts for the next five days.

As per the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph may strike isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts on Thursday.

Similarly, Ganjam and Gajapati districts may witness winds at 40-50 kmph, while areas like Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Sundargarh may experience wind speeds of 30-40 kmph.

Light to moderate rainfall is also likely during afternoon and evening hours across the affected regions. The IMD added that after three days, day temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2-3°C statewide.

People are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorm hours and avoid open areas to ensure safety. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
