Odisha creates 514 new posts to strengthen forensic and prosecution services

Bhubaneswar, April 9: In a significant move to bolster its criminal justice infrastructure, the Odisha government has approved the creation of 514 new posts within the State Forensic Science Services Organisation and the State Prosecution Service.

This decision comes just ahead of a crucial meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to assess the state’s readiness for implementing three new criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

According to an official release from the Home Department on April 8, 247 posts of various categories have been sanctioned for the State Forensic Science Services Organisation. This move aims to enhance the scientific and investigative capabilities necessary for the efficient functioning of the justice system.

Additionally, 267 posts have been created in the Directorate of Public Prosecution and District Directorate of Prosecution. These appointments are in alignment with Section 20 of the BNSS and are intended to ensure that the new legal framework is supported by adequate manpower and expertise.
