Low pressure over Bay of Bengal likely to weaken, rain to continue in parts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar, April 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said that the well-marked low-pressure area currently situated over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to gradually weaken over the next 36 hours.
The system is likely to move northwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal in the next 12 hours, maintaining its current intensity. Thereafter, it is expected to recurve towards the north-northeast and lose strength over the central Bay of Bengal.
Due to this weather system, several parts of Odisha, especially coastal districts, have been witnessing light to moderate rainfall. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds with speeds reaching 30–40 kmph, valid till April 12.
Rainfall is also likely in interior and northern Odisha districts over the coming days. Light to moderate showers may occur in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore on April 13; and in multiple districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, and Angul through April 15. Despite rainfall, day temperatures are expected to remain steady, though isolated areas like Jharsuguda, Balangir, and Boudh may experience temperatures rising to 40°C or above.
