Odisha to introduce revised syllabus under NEP 2020 from 2026-27

Bhubaneswar, March 22: The Odisha government is set to implement a revised school syllabus in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to modernize the education system while preserving regional heritage.

Announcing the decision on Saturday, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond stated that the new syllabus will be introduced for students from Class 1 to 8 starting from the 2026-27 academic session. The revised curriculum will place a stronger emphasis on language, culture, and heritage, ensuring that students develop a deeper connection with their regional traditions and identity.

Additionally, the Minister clarified the state’s stance on the minimum age for school admissions. As per Odisha’s guidelines, children must turn six years old by September 1 to be eligible for school admission. This differs slightly from the central government’s directive, which mandates that children complete six years by March 1.

Despite this variation, Minister Gond assured that Odisha’s decision aligns with its educational framework. The move is expected to enhance learning while fostering cultural awareness among young students.
