Talcher Road Station set for ₹19 crore upgrade to enhance passenger facilities

Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: Talcher Road Station, classified as an NSG-5 category station under the Khurda Road division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR), is set to receive significant upgrades with a proposed investment of ₹19 crore.
This initiative aims to enhance passenger facilities and accommodate the increasing traffic generated by the nearby coal fields, power plants, and other industries. As one of the 57 Amrit Stations announced by the Ministry of Railways, Talcher Road Station is poised to become a crucial transport hub, addressing the needs of the region's growing population. Currently managing 22 trains, the station's passenger traffic is expected to rise steadily due to ongoing industrial developments in the vicinity.
The proposed development plan includes a new Station Building (G+1) covering 300 sqm, improvements to traffic circulation and beautification of the circulating area (2055 sqm) with unidirectional traffic flow and separate entry and exit gates, and an upgraded front façade of the existing station building (990 sqm). Additionally, there will be a well-planned parking area for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and autos (1854 sqm), more platform shelters across the station totaling 35 bays, a spacious waiting hall of 140 sqm, and premium modular toilets (70 sqm). A provision for a 12.0 m wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) and enhanced platform surfaces finished with flamed granite and heavy-duty mosaic tiles will also be included. Comprehensive signage for improved navigation will be installed, and the project has already achieved 51% physical progress.
This development highlights Indian Railways' commitment to upgrading infrastructure and passenger services at key stations, reflecting the growing demands of both local communities and industries.
