OSME transformed under ‘Skilled in Odisha’ with backing from OMBADC

Bhubaneswar, April 9: To enhance the quality of technical education, laboratories at the Orissa School of Mining Engineering (OSME) in Keonjhar are being modernized with financial assistance from the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC). This initiative aims to equip students of ITIs and engineering colleges with industry-relevant skills and infrastructure.

Established in 1956 in the mineral-rich Keonjhar district, OSME was the first institution in Eastern India to offer a diploma in Mining Engineering. It currently offers training in eight technical disciplines, including Mining, Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering.

Modernization efforts include the upgrade of Mining, Drilling, Metallurgy, Mine Surveying, and IT labs, along with the creation of AutoCAD and MAT labs and a Mining Museum. Updated equipment and computers have also been provided across departments. The library has been renovated, offering new textbooks, internet access, and e-learning resources.

Under the 'Skilled in Odisha' initiative, the state government is focused on building globally competitive talent. “With OMBADC’s support, OSME has transformed into a modern technical institution, helping students secure jobs in top industries,” said Er. Krushna Chandra Rout, Principal of OSME.

To promote overall development, a modern gym and upgraded playground have been set up, along with improved drinking water and sanitation facilities.

These developments are creating a skilled workforce from the tribal-dominated Keonjhar region, ready to meet the growing demand for technically proficient professionals at national and international levels.
