Odisha looks to Singapore for investment in steel, electronics, and renewable sectors

Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held discussions with prominent business leaders in Singapore to attract investments to the state. During a meeting with Ravin Jhunjhunwala, chairman of Orind Singapore Pte Ltd, the Chief Minister encouraged the establishment of a new unit in Odisha. Jhunjhunwala expressed interest in exploring opportunities in the bio-fertilizer sector.
Leading a high-level delegation on a four-day visit to Singapore, Majhi emphasized the state's investor-friendly environment and assured full support from the Odisha government. He also met Vivek Agarwal, promoter of Visa Group Ltd, and urged him to enhance production capacity, focus on value-added products, and generate employment in Odisha’s steel and ferro-chrome industries.
The delegation further engaged with Wong Kim Yin, Group President and CEO of Sembcorp Industries Limited, discussing the company's upcoming green ammonia project in Odisha and its renewable energy initiatives across India. Majhi invited Sembcorp officials to participate in the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave, scheduled for January 28-29, 2025, in Bhubaneswar.
Additionally, the Chief Minister met Edward Morton, founder of CT Metrix; BC Tan, Chairman of UBCT; and Sushant Patnaik, founder and CEO of iHub Inc. Discussions centered on advancements in semiconductors, medical equipment manufacturing, and smart city solutions. Majhi reassured the delegation of Odisha’s commitment to fostering a strong electronics ecosystem to support these sectors.
