Day temperatures to rise in Odisha; IMD predicts rain and thunderstorms ahead

Bhubaneswar, April 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecasted a rise in day temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across Odisha over the next 24 hours, even as light rain is likely in some areas of the state.

On April 6, light showers may occur at one or two places in the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Rayagada, and Gajapati. Similar conditions are expected on April 7 in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form within the next 48 hours. This system is expected to bring widespread light to moderate rainfall over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next 6 to 7 days.

Squally weather with wind speeds reaching 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is also predicted over the Andaman Sea and southeast Bay of Bengal from April 6 to 9.

Thunderstorm activity with gusty winds is likely to resume in Odisha from April 8, with yellow warnings issued for several districts through April 10.
