Conman Satyajit Samal granted remand after cheating multiple women

Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Serial conman Satyajit Managovind Samal, arrested for deceiving five women through fraudulent marriages and cheating them of substantial amounts of money while also pursuing 49 other women, is set to be placed on a two-day remand starting today.

The Capital Police had requested a 10-day remand, but the court granted only two days. Samal, who was apprehended on August 3, hails from Jajpur. He allegedly deceived women by posing as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer on a matrimonial site to attract victims.

Samal's scheme involved marrying women, extracting money from them, and then abandoning them. He transferred the stolen funds abroad, primarily to Dubai, to evade detection.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of Samal’s fraudulent activities and identify additional victims. Authorities are also working to trace the money he sent overseas.

The case came to light when two victims reported him to the Capital Police, revealing that he had defrauded them of Rs 44 lakh, a car, and a bullet. Samal, who resided in Chandrasekhapur, had previously swindled one victim out of Rs 36 lakh and a car, while another victim lost Rs 8 lakh and a bullet.
