Odisha man dies by suicide after allegedly facing harassment from wife

Bhubaneswar, April 6: A man reportedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train near the Nijigarh-Tapang railway track in Odisha's Khurda district. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Khurda Industrial Police. Authorities identified the deceased as Ramchandra Barjena, a resident of Kumbharbasta village.

According to preliminary findings by the Government Railway Police (GRP), the body was discovered on Saturday morning and sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the cause and time of death.

Shortly before taking the drastic step, Ramchandra recorded an emotional video message in which he blamed his wife for mental harassment, stating that ongoing domestic issues pushed him to the brink. In the video, he expressed anguish over threats of divorce and alleged mistreatment by his wife and in-laws. The couple had been married for about two years and shared a one-year-old daughter.

Based on a complaint filed by the deceased's family, police have registered a case under Sections 108, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), naming his wife Rupali and her family for alleged abetment to suicide. The investigation is ongoing.
