Notorious criminal injured in Angul Police encounter

Bhubaneswar, April 6: A notorious criminal, Khirod Nayak, sustained a bullet injury during a police encounter late Saturday near Hanuman Batika, within the jurisdiction of Angul Town Police.

The incident unfolded when officers from Chhendipada Police, Angul Town Police, and a Special Squad successfully cornered Khirod near a mango orchard. According to police sources, Khirod opened fire in an attempt to escape, prompting a swift response from the officers who retaliated and struck him in his right leg. Following the confrontation, he was apprehended and immediately admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.

Khirod, who is wanted in connection with multiple criminal cases, is considered one of the most dangerous fugitives in the region. This incident is part of a series of recent police encounters targeting notorious criminals.

Just three days earlier, police arrested Sushant Kumar Nayak, alias Jhamu, after a firefight in the Talabeda forest in Talcher. Additionally, on April 3, two criminals, Sonu Yadav and Manish Yadav, were injured in a police encounter in Bhubaneswar’s Badagada area, while last month another high-profile criminal, Beyas Lakhua, was injured in an encounter in Rourkela city.
