Odisha Vigilance traps SCB Medical College DEO in bribery case

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Vigilance officials arrested a Data Entry Operator (DEO) at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for soliciting a bribe from the attendant of a patient.
Smruti Ranjan Sahoo, who works in the Department of Hepatology, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000 from the son of a patient receiving treatment for Hepatitis. Sahoo demanded the money in exchange for providing prescribed medicines, which are supposed to be distributed free of charge by the government. When the complainant refused to comply, Sahoo denied access to the medications, prompting the complainant to report the incident to the Vigilance.
Following the complaint, officials set up a trap and apprehended Sahoo while he was accepting the bribe. The full amount was recovered and seized. Investigations are currently ongoing at two locations associated with Sahoo to uncover any disproportionate assets.
The Cuttack Vigilance has filed a case against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
