Similipal Tiger Reserve reopens after four months

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: After being closed to visitors for the past four months, the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has reopened, inviting tourists to experience one of India’s most biodiverse national parks.
Similipal, known for its rich wildlife, including Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards, and over 200 bird species, is an ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Tourists were welcomed at the Pithabata gate in Baripada and Kuliani in Jashipur by officials of the Similipal Tiger Reserve. Entry is permitted between 6 am and 9 am, with 35 vehicles allowed through the Kuliani gate and 25 through the Pithabata gate. Visitors can purchase entry permits at the gates, with a fee of Rs 100 per person.
To maintain the sanctuary’s cleanliness, restrictions have been placed on plastic, drugs, non-vegetarian food, and flammable materials. Advance bookings for guesthouse stays are available on the ecotourism website. While the reserve typically opens in November after the monsoon, it opened early this year, allowing visitors to enjoy Similipal’s beauty during the Durga Puja season.
