BJD's Ranendra Pratap Swain sworn in as pro-tem Speaker

Bhubaneswar, June 14: According to reports, Ranendra Pratap Swain has been sworn in as the Pro-Tem Speaker of the Odisha Assembly on Friday.
Governor Raghubar Das appointed the Senior BJD MLA to this role on June 13. Swain, who has represented the Athagarh Assembly constituency in Cuttack district since 1990, secured victory in the recent 2024 election by defeating BJP's Abhaya Kumar Barik with a margin of 3584 votes.
On June 18 and 19, Swain is scheduled to administer oaths to the newly elected MLAs. Subsequently, an election for the assembly Speaker's post is set for June 20, with the deadline for candidate applications being June 19.
