Cuttack havildar dies in accident while defusing seized firecrackers

Bhubaneswar, June 14: A havildar lost his life on Friday when seized firecrackers exploded while being defused on the banks of the Kathajodi River in Cuttack.

The havildar, identified as Pradip Kumar Malick, was a resident of Jagatpur Andeisahi in Cuttack. He had served with the Commissionerate Police for 24 years and had recently joined the bomb squad team of the Reserve Police.

Malick was attempting to defuse the firecrackers near the Kathajodi embankment when they detonated. He was immediately transported to SCB Medical College and Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Following a post-mortem examination, Malick’s body will be handed over to his family, according to a police official.

In the aftermath, senior police officials and a scientific team arrived at the scene to investigate if the standard operating procedures (SOP) were followed.
