IMD forecasts further temperature drops in Odisha amid cold wave conditions

Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: A cold wave has gripped Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting that 12 locations recorded night temperatures at or below 10°C over the past 24 hours.
G Uadaygiri, a hill station in Kandhamal, was the coldest at 4.8°C, followed by Semiliguda in Koraput at 6.6°C. Other notable temperatures included Rourkela at 7°C, Jharsuguda at 8°C, and Chiplima in Sonepur at 8.8°C. Additionally, Keonjhar and both Phulbani and Daringbadi in Kandhamal recorded 9.5°C, while Sundargarh reached 9.7°C and Kirei in Sundargarh recorded 9.8°C. Sonepur and Angul both registered 10°C.
Further temperatures fell to 11°C in Balangir and Bhawanipatna, with Baripada, Bhadrak, and Dhenkanal hitting 12°C. Dense fog was observed in Dhenkanal and Angul, while shallow to moderate fog was present in Bhawanipatna, Koraput, and Gopalpur.
In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, temperatures were recorded at 13.2°C and 13°C, respectively, with the state capital noting a significant drop from 19.4°C just days earlier. The IMD has predicted a further decrease of 2-3°C over the next 24 hours, with little change expected in the following days.
