Senior BJD leader and Nuapada MLA Rajendra Dholakia passes away

Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and sitting Nuapada MLA Rajendra Dholakia passed away at the age of 69 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai on Monday. His demise has created a void in Odisha politics, particularly in western Odisha where he was regarded as a strong voice for the people.
Born on November 20, 1956, Dholakia entered politics as an independent candidate and won his first Assembly election from Nuapada in 2004. Recognised for his grassroots connect, he later joined the BJD and went on to secure further victories in 2009, 2019, and most recently in 2024. Over the years, he became one of the prominent leaders of the party, playing a crucial role in strengthening the BJD’s presence in western Odisha.
As per sources, Dholakia’s mortal remains will be flown to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. His body will be placed at the Odisha Legislative Assembly, enabling leaders, colleagues, and members of the public to pay their final respects.
Meanwhile, condolences have been pouring in from political leaders across party lines, remembering him as a dedicated leader and compassionate representative of his constituency.
