Odisha Manaska Circle sparks dialogue on identity fragmentation and regional unity
Bhubaneswar, April 21: A thought-provoking discussion unfolded at Saheed Nagar during the ninth edition of Odisha Manaska Circle, hosted by All Things Odisha in collaboration with ‘ExtraOdiNari’ and ‘Safe Odisha For Her’.
Citizens from various backgrounds gathered to reflect on the rising fragmentation of identity in Odisha, particularly on the basis of region and language, and its impact on the state's unity in diversity.
The theme of the session, “Unity in Diversity or Fragmentation in Identity? Re-examining Regional Aspirations within Odisha”, brought forth lived experiences and critical insights from participants hailing from different corners of the state. They shared how subtle yet growing divisions—amplified by language, cultural misunderstandings, and regional pride—are influencing social harmony and a shared Odia identity.
Speakers emphasized the need for empathy, mutual respect, and cultural acceptance. “Every 50 kilometers, Odisha offers a unique blend of dialects, customs, and traditions. We must learn to appreciate this diversity to preserve the essence of ‘Odia-ness’,” noted a participant.
Odia film actor Partha Sarathi Ray also participated, adding depth to the conversation. The session concluded with a collective call to rise above differences, listen with compassion, and focus on shared development to build a more united Odisha.
