Indian Air Force personnel arrested after journalist’s tragic death

Bhubaneswar, July 25: A day after the tragic death of journalist Madhumita Parida, who reportedly jumped in front of a moving train, Dhauli police have arrested her husband, Sridhara Jena, on Thursday.
Following a complaint from Madhumita's family, authorities took action against Jena and presented him in court, according to Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh.
The DCP revealed that Madhumita and Sridhara's relationship had been troubled, with Sridhara allegedly threatening Madhumita with divorce, which led to her distress. On July 23, Madhumita had approached the Dhauli police station, reporting that Sridhara had been absent from home despite being on leave for 12 days. The issue was resolved at that time.
Earlier this week, Madhumita's family had reported an attempted suicide incident involving her consuming phenyl. The matter was addressed at the police station where Sridhara, an Indian Air Force personnel, signed an agreement to cease abusive behavior and to end his extramarital relationships.
The police have seized Sridhara’s mobile phone and are questioning his elder brother to uncover more details about the circumstances leading to Madhumita’s death.
Madhumita, who worked for a web channel in Bhubaneswar, married Sridhara on March 1 after a five-year relationship. Despite their marriage, Madhumita accused Sridhara of maintaining an extramarital affair. In a video recorded before her death, Madhumita alleged that Sridhara was planning to marry another woman and had issued her a divorce notice. The video has since gone viral on social media.
