Odisha Govt considers online classes amid early school closure due to heatwave

Bhubaneswar, April 29: In response to the intense heatwave sweeping across Odisha, the state government is exploring the option of online classes for school students after announcing an early summer vacation.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond stated that schools were closed earlier than scheduled due to the prevailing weather conditions. “Given the situation, we are considering switching to online mode of teaching to ensure students’ learning is not disrupted,” he told reporters. He added that the proposal is under review and a final decision will be taken after examining all aspects, including the availability of digital infrastructure.
The Minister also assured that students and parents will be informed well in advance about the date of reopening of schools.
Meanwhile, concerns have emerged regarding private schools allegedly violating the government’s closure order. Gond warned that strict action will be taken against those flouting the directive. He emphasized that if any unfortunate incident occurs due to heatwave exposure in such schools, the management will be held fully accountable for negligence.
