Odisha Health Minister warns of strict action against hospitals denying treatment under health schemes

Bhubaneswar, April 29: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling on Tuesday issued a stern warning to hospitals empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), stating that strict action will be taken against any facility found refusing treatment to eligible patients.

“All issues related to the implementation of the schemes are being examined and will be resolved soon,” Mahaling assured reporters, amid rising complaints and concerns from both patients and healthcare providers.

Several private hospitals had earlier flagged operational and financial challenges in implementing the schemes. In addition, many homeless people, landless families, and informal workers were reportedly unable to access benefits due to lack of proper documentation.

Clarifying eligibility, the Minister said individuals falling under five specific categories, including those covered by the NFSA, State Food Security Scheme (SFSS), and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), are entitled to the benefits. Documents like Naveen cards and ration cards serve as valid proof.

He added that the government is working to integrate e-KYC data and resolve technical issues, including PAN-India card and OTP verification errors, to ensure wider access.
