Odisha braces for cold nights: IMD predicts significant temperature drop

Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: Cold nights are set to return to Odisha, starting Wednesday, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a significant drop in minimum temperatures ranging from 3°C to 5°C.

This forecast suggests that the cold weather will intensify across the state during the first week of January. In light of these changing conditions, the IMD has issued a warning for dense fog in several districts, including Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, which could impact visibility and travel.

As temperatures decrease, the weather office estimates that night temperatures will plummet to around 10°C in Koraput and Phulbani, while Rourkela and Jharsuguda are expected to see lows of 12°C. Other areas such as Bolangir, Nuapada, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Khurdha will likely experience temperatures around 13°C on New Year’s Day.

In addition to the cold, light to moderate rain is anticipated in parts of Odisha on January 7 and 8. Recently, G Udayagiri recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 11.5°C.
