Odisha Law Minister promises stampede probe report within 30 days, vows strict action

Bhubaneswar, June 29: Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Sunday stated that the inquiry report into the recent stampede in Puri during the Rath Yatra will be submitted within a month. The tragic incident, which occurred late Saturday night near the Gundicha Temple, claimed the lives of three devotees and left several others injured.
Addressing the media, Harichandan confirmed that a detailed investigation is already underway and assured that those found responsible for the mishap will face strict consequences. “The government acted promptly by initiating a probe. Once the report is finalized, necessary steps will be taken,” he said.
The Minister further emphasized that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed officials to ensure the uninterrupted observance of all remaining Rath Yatra rituals, including Bahuda Yatra and Niladri Bije. “All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and comfort of devotees,” he added.
Harichandan also asserted that the administration is working with full devotion under the blessings of Lord Jagannath. Responding to opposition criticism, he said the current government prioritizes transparency and accountability, unlike previous administrations.
