H&UD Minister lays foundation for crematorium in Dumuduma, inaugurates traffic aid posts

Bhubaneswar, Feb 7: In a major step toward enhancing urban infrastructure, Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Public Enterprises, and Chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), laid the foundation stone for a new crematorium at Dumuduma. He also inaugurated 22 traffic aid posts at Khandagiri.

The event was attended by Babu Singh, MLA (Ekamra), Dr. Umashankar Dash, Additional Commissioner of Police, Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, Vice Chairman of BDA, and other senior officials.

The crematorium, spread over 1.58 acres with a budget of Rs. 4.60 crore, aims to provide dignified funeral services. It will include a spacious waiting hall, separate changing rooms for men and women, an administrative block, a water body, and an advanced electrical/gas cremation system. Accessibility features such as ramps and tactile signage will ensure inclusivity, while a designated parking area, security measures, and eco-friendly waste management will enhance sustainability.

As Bhubaneswar expands, the government recognizes the need for modern funeral facilities that offer emotional and spiritual support to grieving families. This initiative aligns with the city's Smart City mission, ensuring dignified and accessible last rites.

Alongside this, Dr. Mahapatra inaugurated 22 traffic aid posts at Khandagiri, constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.6 crore. These posts are designed to support traffic police personnel working in harsh conditions. Each post features shaded rest areas, restroom facilities, and an elevated view for efficient traffic monitoring.

Strategically placed at key junctions, these posts will improve the working conditions of traffic personnel, ensuring their well-being while managing city traffic effectively.
