Security heightened in Puri amid India-Pakistan tensions; Jagannath Temple under tight vigil

Bhubaneswar, May 9: Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, security has been significantly tightened in Odisha’s holy city of Puri, with special focus on the iconic Shree Jagannath Temple. Authorities have ramped up precautionary measures to ensure the safety of devotees, tourists, and the ancient 12th-century shrine.

Police officials confirmed that adequate forces, bomb detection squads, and dog squads have been deployed in and around the temple premises. The intensified security steps come in response to the growing geopolitical strain between the two neighbouring nations, with Odisha's coastal regions considered sensitive due to their strategic significance.

Security checks have been intensified across Puri, particularly at hotels, lodges, and guesthouses. Identification documents of visitors are being thoroughly scrutinised, and extensive searches are being carried out to eliminate any potential threats. Police patrolling has been strengthened across the city to maintain law and order and detect any suspicious activity.

Special security units have assumed control of the temple premises, and law enforcement has been directed to remain alert and proactive. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will continue strict vigilance until tensions subside. These measures aim to ensure the uninterrupted safety of pilgrims and the overall peace of the pilgrim town.
