Ratna Bhandar set to open for inspection on July 8

Bhubaneswar, June 19: The Ratna Bhandar, a treasure trove within the ancient Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, is scheduled to undergo inspection on July 8.

This decision was confirmed by ASI superintendent DB Garnayak, who stated that the inspection will be conducted in the presence of members from the ASI's core and Technical Committees. The purpose of the inspection is to assess the condition of the 12th-century shrine and undertake necessary repairs.

Garnayak highlighted previous findings from 2018 which identified cracks and missing stones and iron rods, indicating deteriorating conditions. Recent laser scanning in November 2023 revealed additional cracks in the outer walls and joints, potentially allowing rainwater ingress.

In response to these findings, conservation efforts are deemed urgent to ensure the temple and its treasures are safeguarded. SJTA Chief Administrator Vir Vikram Yadav mentioned that the state government has formed a committee whose recommendations will guide the reopening and conservation efforts of the Ratna Bhandar.
