PM Modi launches Subhadra Yojana, delivering on key BJP poll promise

Bhubaneswar, Sept 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday officially launched Odisha's Subhadra Yojana, fulfilling a key promise made by the BJP ahead of the 2024 elections. The ceremony took place at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.

The event was attended by Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers K.V. Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram, along with other MPs and ministers.

The launch event saw over 70,000 women in attendance, eagerly anticipating their first installment of ₹5,000. According to Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, more than 74 lakh women have already registered for the scheme.

As part of the launch, ₹5,000 was credited to the bank accounts of 25 lakh women, with the initiative set to benefit over one crore women across Odisha. Women who registered by September 15 will receive their initial payment soon after the launch.

Under the Subhadra Yojana, beneficiaries will receive a total of ₹10,000 annually in two installments, credited on Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day (March 8). Over the next five years, each eligible woman will receive ₹50,000, aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and financial independence. The scheme is projected to cover over one crore women between the ages of 21 and 60 from 2024-25 to 2028-29.
